The firm works with a standard of 10% debt collection fees as permissible in the Zambian jurisdiction. This is variable from one debt to another in line with the quantum of the debt. Upon retention, a client is required to make a deposit on the file which can be a percentage of the said 10% collection fee in order for work to commence.
At first instance (Demand letter), our process includes a claim for reimbursement of the debtor's costs which when collected cover the Creditor's deposit as paid on file.
In legal debt recovery, the Creditor is required to pay a deposit on file and the matter proceeds to litigation. As the litigation process is not defined on a solid time frame and could exceed to superior courts, we may agree with the client on continued file deposits as the matter proceeds and we maintain a prayer for costs throughout the case so that the Creditor is covered.
