Get a free quoteAs a leading Hungarian dispute resolution boutique, we are comfortable before every level of the Hungarian judiciary system, as well as domestic and international arbitration tribunals. We regularly act before the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights; we have substantial experience with complaints to the European Commission and preliminary ruling procedures before the European Court of Justice. Together with our local partners, we represent our clients before local and international courts and arbitration tribunals worldwide.
We have 10 fee earners. This ranks us amongst medium size firms in Hungary and allows us to undertake almost every type of engagements. Our colleagues have gained experience in international law firms and leading financial advisory companies. Our partners are acknowledged experts, recommended by international rankings (Chambers, Legal500). We possess qualifications and working experience in Hungary and abroad (including France, Germany and the US). Beside our native Hungarian, we work in English, German and French.
The Legal 500 ranked LFB as tier 1 in dispute resolution and tie 2 in tax, recommending our “highly skilled” team, which impresses with its “second-to-none expertise, whilst remaining down to earth and accessible”. Our partner Andras Daniel Laszlo has been named as a „leading individual” by Legal 500 in dispute resolution, whilst our partner Gaspar Bagamery has been mentioned as „next generation partner” in 2023.
We are in our element when we have to solve problems that others consider unresolvable. Instead of schoolbook templates, we develop real solutions to our clients’ problems. In any debt recovery matter or dispute, we always start our work by investigating the parties’ relationship and the actual circumstances of the case. As a result, we define our strategy and discuss the proposed approach and the associated costs with the client. We believe that each case needs to be addressed specifically, as the antecedents can be very different. We typically start with extra-judicial procedures or negotiation; if the extra-judicial phase is unsuccessful, we initiate a judicial procedure.
Some of our recent cases include:
- Representing our client, a multinational logistics company, in the course of an extra-judicial payment order procedure in front of a notary, as well as the initiation and implementation of enforcement procedure relating to its claim for storage service fee;
- Assisting our client in a European payment order procedure and – due to the insolvency of the debtor – in the subsequent insolvency procedure;
- Representing a waste management company in payment order procedures and the subsequent enforcement procedures in connection with several claims for unpaid shipment fee;
- Representing one of the world's leading logistic companies against its client in a contractual dispute relating to a complex warehousing agreement (value exceeding EUR 20 million) in the course of a lawsuit in front of the ordinary Hungarian court, which was closed by a settlement favourable for our client;
- Representing our client, a health service provider, in extra-judicial negotiations as well as filing of a lawsuit relating to damages claims towards a previous employee;
- Representing several clients in the initiation and implementation of insolvency procedures;
- Assisting several clients in sending payment notifications, which are often followed by a successful out-of-court settlement;
- Representing a leading international telecommunication company in a series of disputes against its distributors arising from the termination of the distributorship agreements;
- Representing fraud victims before the Hungarian investigative authorities and in connection with the recovery of defrauded assets;
- Representing international businessmen in connection with the seizure of substantial funds by the Hungarian police on the grounds of suspicion of money laundering.
